The Mets are searching for their new GM and from what I’ve read online Sandy Alderson is the man for the job. Unfortunately I had no idea who he was and what he was all about when his name was droppped, so I Googled it. Why not? Didn’t you?

After reading up on everything I see he worked for Commissioner Bud Selig as Executive VP of Baseball Operations from 1998 to 2005. This clears up why he was highly recommended by Mr. Selig and does make him a good candidate for the job.

He was also the CEO of the San Diego Padres until 2009, but the cool fact I found out was he was a talent evaluator for the Oakland Athletics and helped them win the Series back in 1989. That made the eyebrows jump.

I remember the Athletics of the late 80’s and actually rooted for them in the Series back in ’88. How could you not? The Dodgers beat the Mets in the NLCS so it was only natural.

Sandy Alderson had a hand in the talent that roamed the field out in Oakland back then and if he gets the GM job over here in Flushing, I won’t mind in the least. I did have my sights set on Hahn, but when you  throw Alderson in the mix, is there really anyone better and more fitting? Of course we won’t know until 2011.
