When asked about Gil Hodges being made available on the Golden Era Ballot and his candidacy, Tom Seaver had the following to say about his big league manager back in November of 2011:

“He was the most important man of my career. If you put together how important he was to the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the other aspect of how important he was with the integration of blacks into the game of baseball because Gil was so much behind Jackie Robinson. That’s a big social issue and a thing that was one of the best things to ever happen to the game of baseball.”
